We, Roadstone Ltd., intend to apply to Cork County Council for a 30-year planning permission for the development of a vertical extension at this site, the existing Ballygarvan Quarry in the townlands of Killanully, Kilnahone and Ballygarvan, Co. Cork. The proposed development consists of: • Development of a vertical extension to the existing quarry comprising extraction, processing and washing of limestone and soil from an area measuring approximately 5.4ha and will allow for the extraction of approximately 1,303,798m3 of material; • Construction of an aggregate washing plant (including filter press, water supply tank, and water management network); • Construction of a quarantine area comprising a concrete foundation slab and inspection shed (gross floor area of 625m2); • Infilling and restoration of the existing and future quarry void over an area of approximately 14.7ha. It is proposed to fill the void with soil and stone by-product (i.e. essentially virgin soil or equivalent to virgin soil and stone) which will be notified to the EPA as an Article 27 by-product. There will be a phased restoration of the quarry void working from the base of the void vertically building up soil and stone. Following completion of the infilling works, natural colonisation of plant species will occur from the seedbank within the redistributed soil; • Continued use of existing operational infrastructure including weighbridge, office, wheel-wash facility, maintenance workshop, lime shed, water storage tanks, refuelling area and plant and machinery storage area; • Continued use of existing site access via the existing entrance off the R613; • All associated site development works. An Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and a Natura Impact Statement (NIS) have been prepared in respect of the proposed development.
